Chemistry 1 Unit 5: Reactions and Stoichiometry

In this unit, you will learn about how atoms and compounds react with each other. This unit is all about chemical reactions - how to write and balance chemical equations, what happens to energy during chemical reactions, and how to calculate the amount of reactant used or product made.

11/13 - Introduction to Chemical Reactions
Notebook: Pages 137-139
Get the notes (pages 137) from the powerpoint below, or refer to textbook pages 296-300. Don't worry about the lab on page 138. Practice on page 139.

11/14 - Balancing Chemical Equations
Notebook: pages 140-142
Get the notes (pages 140-141) from the powerpoint below. Then practice on page 141 and 142. (Notice that you are only required to do 10 of the 14 problems on page 142.)

11/15 - More Balancing Chemical Equations
Notebook: pages 143-144
See your teacher for the notes on page 143. Practice balancing equations on page 144. (Notice that you are only required to do 16 of the 32 problems in the page 144 packet.)

11/16 - Unit 5 (Part 1) Quiz
Notebook: will go on page 145 after it's graded
See Ms. Siverling to make up this quiz.

11/19 - Types of Chemical Reactions
Notebook: pages 146-149
Get the notes (pages 146-148) from the powerpoint below. Then practice identifying reactions on page 149. (Numbers 15-17 are optional).

11/20 - Enthalpy of Chemical Reactions
Notebook: pages 150-153
Get the notes (pages 150-152) from the powerpoint below. Then practice on the Enthalpy Practice packet on page 153. (The back page is encouraged but optional.)

11/26 - Chemical Reactions Lab
Notebook: page 154
The lab equipment is out from November 26-30; after that it is put away. Complete the lab before or after school. See the teacher for a list of the Actual Reactants and Actual Products when you get to that part on the bottom of the 4th page of the packet.

11/27 - Reaction Rate
Notebook: page 155-156
Get the notes (page 155) from the powerpoint below. Then practice on page 156.
